Page Rank Info & Tips to Increase it
Page rank (PR) is a system invented by Google to determine how important a page is on the web. Page rank is determined by links directing to a certain website. But, the sheer number of links is not the only thing that will affect page rank. The page rank of the sites linking to your page is also considered. But wait, thats not all, the links should also be relevant to your web pages topic. Google has a page that describes it in more detail here.

If you want to view the page rank of the individual pages you visit you can get the Google Toolbar for either Firefox or Internet Explorer. You can download it free of charge.
Now some people like to think things about Page Rank that are not 100% true. So, the next thing to do is to dismiss some rumors of page rank.
Page Rank Rumors:
1. Having Do-Follow on your Blog lowers page rank - Google has lowered page rank for those sites that are selling links. They are also lowering PR for some link directories, that’s it. It is not lowering Page Rank for blogs that have do follow tags in their comments. So, if your blog does have the do follow tags, you have nothing to worry about.
2. Page Rank Guarantees high spots in Search Engine Terms - Well, yes and no. Page Rank judges your website’s authority on the web, but it does not in all keywords or phrases. You can work towards targeting a keyword or phrase with an article but people with lower page rank could rank higher then you. Search engine algorithms are not that easy to figure out. They got little things in the math that we don’t even think about.
Great, now what?
Now we start learning about what we can do to increase our page rank. Yes getting links is the general idea but what can we do to actually get links? This is what you can do…
Get links to increase your page rank by:
1. Submit to high PR link directories : While Google is cracking down on the directory links, they can’t fully take down directories relevance on the web. Just make sure that you are only submitting your website to top notch websites.
2. Article Directories : Submitting to some strong article directories is a nice way of gaining some nice link strength. Get some of your articles and rewrite them. Then submit it to an article directory.
3. Use Social Bookmarking Media Sites - Stumbleupon, de.licio.us, digg, are all great for traffic. These are quality links, plus if they start to get “famous” on these sites, they will get even more links from bloggers that like to link to great articles.
4. Ask a Question or Answer One - Use Yahoo! Answers or Google Groups and when you asking a question or answering one use your link. Make sure it is relevant to the topic. Nobody likes spam.
These are some great ways to actually gain links in increase your page rank, but they are not the only ways to gain links for maximizing page rank. Here are 2 awesome webpages that will also help increase page rank.
The pages above are just great with loads of info, and theories for page rank.
Page Rank Theory - Page Rank Doesn’t Matter To Google Search Engine
Essentially this is a simple theory that Page Rank doesn’t matter to google with search engine. Well, it means that if a link is nofollow or not, it doesn’t matter to Google’s search engine.
Why do people think this?
People have found that when they started with their new sites, they were commenting like crazy on high PR blogs that had the nofollow tag in their comments. They started like this, and maybe a couple hundred comments later (and no other links besides some random directories) they were ranking high for some big terms. They would often find themselves in the first second or third page for many different keywords or phrases in search engines. They were even above some sites with a very high page rank and authority. Then, when the site’s page rank was updated it had only a page rank of 3.

Great article, you’ve definitely done your homework. I always find Digg to be a great place to generate traffic to your website. It’s fast and instant but short lived if you know what I mean, in that you get some hits straight away but unless it gets a major amount of diggs the hits die off quickly as other new articles take your place on the list.

True! I agree at 100%… I mean, just an opinion, PageRank is totally useless and can break a site reputation because of personal reasons or whatever… The 5 sites you’ve stated are useful and helpful. Thank you very much.

Those are very interesting ways to increase your page rank: the fourth and fifth idea especially so. Seems like it will be a great way to get more people to my websites and get them higher up in the Google search engines, so thank you.

Good ideas on how to increase page rank. It’s always a problem for me, because to get people to click and increase your page rank, you need to be on the first pages, and to get their, you need to have a high page rank. But with this system, i can increase my own page rank a bit easier. good article too

Thanks, this article was very informative. Page Rank is a touchy subject but it is always great to learn more on the subject. Actually, I thought that the Google & Yahoo! Questions were a smart idea, Plus the flickr thing was awesome too. I will have some fun getting links with Flickr. Who would of thought that Flickr would not have the nofollow tag.

Yeah, Page Rank is kind of weird. Maybe because we can never really know what makes it tick, and because the algorithm changes every 6 months or so. Anyway with the Flickr thing, I think because it is owned by Yahoo! they don’t place the nofollow tag. Mainly because the nofollow tag helps its competitor Google distinguish false or bad links.
