What you do with your time as a webmaster is a big think in terms of effectiveness. There is only so much time during the day. The last thing you need to do is waste time. But, everybody does have some bad work habits that slows them down, and makes them work ineffectively.

Here are some bad habits that you should avoid:

1. Looking at stats - Stop looking at your website’s stats. That will get you no where. You are not making your website better by looking at your stats, or looking at your sites links by typing up Link:www.webtacs.net in Yahoo. No, you are just wasting your time. Count how many times you check your stats on any given day. Then multiply that by 15 minutes and find out how much time you are wasting. Believe me you will be amazed.

2. Procrastination - Have a big project to do? Yeah, but first I am going to get myself a soda before I start on this hard project. WRONG ANSWER! You should be pissed off at yourself if that’s what you think when you need to do something. Just do it and then get your self a soda. A nice little thing that I do is when I think of junky thoughts like the example I just showed, is to make that little thing that I wanted to get up and do a reward for finishing what I needed to do.

3. Playing Games - I have found myself playing games, or talking to people about sports or what not on MSN. Then when I look at the time it is an hour later. What kind of time efficiency is that? For that reason I like to turn off my MSN or put myself as busy* . By doing that it just takes out one factor that leads to time ineffeciency.

A big feeling that drives ineffectiveness is the feeling that you are going places with your work. This makes you want to just keep looking at how far you have gone. You need to replace that feeling with that of “I have gotten far but need to go farther”.

Keep that phrase in mind when you are working.
